CBT-I Treatment for Chronic Insomnia
CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) is a type of therapy for chronic insomnia that is aimed at modifying sleep behaviors and sleep-related thoughts to improve both sleep duration and sleep quality. It can be implemented by itself or in combination with treatments for anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. CBT-I is the recommended first-line treatment for chronic insomnia, and may be done in individuals that are already taking sleeping medications. It typically involves about 4 sessions, each spaced 2 weeks apart. Improvement in sleep is often noticed within the first 2 weeks.
